The steel cover kiln is formed as a tunnel structure with pre-heating, firing and cooling zones. The cover and side walls at least in the area of the material to be fired are multi-layered and have a porous insulation walling, on the outside of which is an airtight steel cover. In the area of the preheating and firing zones several air conduits (11) of a warm air blow-in system (9) issue into the cover and wall structures by means of at least one blowing aperture or nozzle. The warm air conduits (11) end in/before an insulation material-free space (10) at a distance from the steel cover, with the warm air blown against the inside of the steel cover so that the latter (4) acts as a reflector. USE/ADVANTAGE - A steel cover kiln for firing ceramics with better corrosion protection for the inside of the cover.
