The fixing element (1) is at least partially of transparent material, with the inner bore surface for the optical fibre (9) being roughened, so that it is non-transparent. Pref., the fixing element (1) uses a glass capillary with a roughened inside surface (4). A conical opening at one end of the fixing element is provided to receive an adhesive (5), allowing the inserted optical fibre (9) to be held in place after UV hardening. USE/ADVANTAGE - Eg for passing fibre through wall eg of switch housing. Increases adhesion between fixing adhesive and inside wall of capillary and enables simple monitoring of sealing.
