Different types of waste such as plastics material are sorted into separate containers (2) which are preferably placed close by the process where the waste is produced. A filled container is pushed into the press (1) through an opening in the side. An hydraulically driven ram plate (10) compresses the waste from above in the first compacting stage of the process. Next, through uncovered openings (28,29) in the sides of the container (2), a second hydraulically driven ram plate (15) advances and pushes the partly compacted bale of waste into a compression chamber (36). As the ram plate continues to advance the waste is further compressed in the final compression stage of the process. When the ram plate is withdrawn the fully compacted bale can be removed and the process repeated on the next filled container. USE/ADVANTAGE - Easy segregation of different types of waste.
