In a synchronised gear box of a motor vehicle, the speeds formed by loose wheels (L1-L5) and fixed wheels (F1-F5) can be selected by coupling the loose wheels to their associated transmission shafts. The speeds are arranged in such a way between an input shaft (3) and an output shaft (5) that they can only be selected by simultaneous closure of two synchronising clutches (S1/2-S4/5) assigned to them.
