Automatic stone grinding machine sensing system - uses encapsulated capacitative proximity switches protected from grinding slurry and water

The automatic stone grinding machine has a support (2) mounted to travel along cross supports, with the grinding head (3) mounted on a spindle so that it can be raised and lowered. This support carries shafts each side, with proximity switches (6) mounted on frames (7) at the bottom. These switches prevent the head from travelling beyond the sides (9) of the workpiece (8). The drive is controlled so that on completion of grinding a workpiece, the head travels onwards to the next. The proximity switches are encapsulated for protection against sprayed on grinding slurry. They are also protected by a shield against water.
