PURPOSE:To obtain the titled composition having excellent flame-retarding effect and high moldability, by compounding a polyolefin with a calcium silicate compound having specific composition and shape. CONSTITUTION:(A) 100pts.wt. of a polyolefin resin, preferably polyethylene resin is compounded with (B) 10-100pts., preferably 20-80pts. of a hydrated calcium silicate (e.g. xonotlite, tobamolite, etc. containing >=5mol% water of crystallization) having a bulk specific gravity of <=0.5, consisting of granules composed of bulky secondary agglomerate of lamellar crystal and/or acicular crystal having an aspect ratio (length/width) of >=3 and containing >=30wt% said lamellar crystal and/or acicular crystal, and prepared e.g. by (1) forming a swollen gelatinous material produced from a silicate source and a lime source, (2) crystallizing and hardening the formed material by the hydrothermal hardening reaction in an autoclave, and (3) pulverizing the product after drying. |
