A lathe for railway wheels consisting of a support for the wheel shaft on its own grease box. By means of pulling rollers the couple necessary to counteract the cutting or shearing forces is generated, the turning operation being performed in only one passing over the whole surface to be mechanized, and the pulling heads being orientated in accordance with the real treading band alignment of the shaft. <IMAGE>
