A method of detecting residual liquid perm on hair uses green paper normally used as a hand towel which involves placing the green paper in contact with a liquid suspected of containing liquid perm and monitoring the change in colour. Suitable green papers are those marketed as e.g. KiMDRi (RTM), HiDRi (RTM) etc. and they are particularly in the form of hand towels. Also disclosed is a liquid perm detector presentation arrangement comprising a stock of green paper sheets of the hand towel type dispensable on demand to the hairdresser. <IMAGE>
