PURPOSE:To cancel abrupt increase of engine torque being in concurrence with throttle operation by providing a control part for cancelling an oil pressure actuated clutch for a specified period corresponding to the shift ratio when changeover is made to a special start mode. CONSTITUTION:Whether or not it is in a special start mode SST is judged, and if YES a clutch cancelling timer TCREL1 is obtained from a shift ratio RATC (104), and if NO each clutch control is carried out (108). To the clutch cancelling timer TCREL one (1) is added to have a new clutch cancelling timer TCREL(110), and this is compared with the above timer TCREL1(112). If TCREL TCREL1, the duty OPWCLU of a clutch solenoid is made 100%(116) and the oil pressure actuated clutch is released. With such a constitution, upon SST transfer the oil pressure actuatted clutch is released only for the clutch release time TCREL1.
