PRODUCTION OF CARBON/CARBON COMPOSITE MATERIAL

摘要

PURPOSE:To easily obtain a carbon/carbon composite material by subjecting a mixture contg. pitch fibers and carbonized fibers obtd. by making the pitch fibers infusible and carbonizing them to carbonization and compacting under uniaxial pressurization. CONSTITUTION:Carbonaceous coal or petroleum pitch is melt-spun by a known method to obtain pitch fibers having 5-100mum average diameter. The pitch preferably has 100-400 deg.C softening point and contains 60-100% optically anisotropic phase. Carbonized fibers are obtd. by making the pitch fibers infusible by treatment at 50-400 deg.C for 10-min to 20hr in an atmosphere of an oxidizing gas and carbonizing them by treatment at 350-1,000 deg.C for 10min to 5hr in a nonoxidizing atmosphere. A mixture contg. 100 pts.wt. of the pitch fibers and 100-1,900 pts.wt. of the carbonized fibers is carbonized and compacted under uniaxial pressurization to form a primary compact having 5-70vol.% porosity and 0.1-1.8g/cm<2> bulk density. This compact is densified with a carbonaceous matrix.
