PURPOSE: To provide the expanding device of a vehicle passenger restrainer for minimizing the concentration of a stress to be imposed on a foil layer being a pressure controlling member by realizing a linear contact between a wire forming a plenum and the foil layer. CONSTITUTION: A device for expanding a vehicle passenger restrainer such as an air bag is provided with a gas source for expanding the air bag, that is, gas generating materials 44. A filter 48 is arranged outside the gas generating source, and provided with an outer surface 52, A pressure controlling member 70 constituted of a coil layer is arranged with an interval outside the filter 48 so that the gas generating materials and the filter can be surrounded. A spiral wire 84 is arranged between the filter and the pressure controlling member, and a plenum 82 is formed between them. Gas supplied by the gas generating materials 44 is pressure-accumulated with a plenum pressure strong enough to rupture the pressure controlling member. The wire is provided with a smooth cylindrical outer surface, and therefore, a linear contact between the wire and the pressure controlling member is realized. |
