The invention relates to a process for wet-galvanising objects which essentially consist of iron. The purpose of the invention is to provide an economical process for wet-galvanising metal objects without the formation of troublesome ammonium chloride mists, and also to combine the advantages of wet-galvanising with those of dry-galvanising. According to the process of the invention, wet-galvanising is effected by first applying to the zinc melt a salt mixture which consists of zinc chloride and potassium chloride in weight ratios of from 95:5 to 70:30, and after the salt mixture has melted, placing onto the melt compacts, which consist of ammonium chloride and potassium chloride in a weight ratio of from 70:30 to 90:10, in such an amount that the concentration of the ammonium chloride in the melt is at most 5% by weight, this concentration being maintained during the following galvanising treatment by occasional further addition of ammonium chloride/potassium chloride compacts having the abovementioned composition.
