PURPOSE:To improve reliability of misfire judgment with a simple logic by measuring generation frequency of misfire detection signals as misfire frequency, judging a misfire ratio when the misfire frequency is a specified value or lower, and correcting a control parameter of an internal combustion engine according to the misfire ratio. CONSTITUTION:A specified crank angle of each cylinder synchronized with rotation of an internal combustion engine is detected by a means 1. An operation condition of the internal combustion engine is detected by sensors 2. A combustion condition is detected by an ion current detecting means 20 in at least in one cylinder. A control parameter for the internal combustion engine is set by a means 31 based on a reference position signal and an operation condition. Misfire of the internal combustion engine is detected by a means 32 based on a combustion condition. In this case, generation frequency of misfire detection signals is counted by a means as a misfire frequency. In case the misfire frequency is a specified value or lower, a misfire ratio is judged by a means 34. The control parameter is corrected based on the misfire ratio.
