Process for the preparation of carboxylic acid anhydrides

There are used, as starting materials, a carboxylic ester or hydrocarbon ether and carbon monoxide and the reaction is carried out in anhydrous medium in the presence of a hydrocarbon halide and of a catalyst consisting of a noble metal from group VIII. The process applies especially to the preparation of acetic anhydride.
