An extruded web of synthetic resin having a scratch resistant coating thereon is made by depositing a material adapted to form a scratch resistant coating onto the return run of at least one of the the endless belts of a dual belt continuous casting machine, the coating being transferred to the surface of the web as the extruded web is polished and cooled in the casting machine.
