PURPOSE: To reduce or exclude the obstruction of a component in a body fluid in the detection of protein. CONSTITUTION: In a method for detecting protein in a liquid system, a liquid is brought into contact with a reagent compsn. containing a redox indicator generating detectable response when oxidized by peroxide in the presence of a copper/protein complex along with copper peroxide of a form capable of forming a copper/protein complex and ionizable phosphate or phosphonate represented by formula (1) [wherein V, W, X and Y are -CH2 -, -CH(OH)-, -CH (CH2 OH),-, -CH(O-PO(OH)2 - or -CH(CH2 O-PO(OH)2 , U is either one of them or -O- and m and n are independently 0 or 1] or formula (2) (wherein R is OH or substituted or non-substituted phenyl and M is hydrogen or a metal cation).
