PURPOSE:To produce high purity beta-silicon carbide having a prescribed average particle diameter. CONSTITUTION:When ethyl silicate is allowed to react with phenolic resin in the presence of a catalyst and the resulting product is heated in a nonoxidizing atmosphere to produce beta-silicon carbide, beta-silicon carbide powder having 0.1-10mum average particle diameter is produced by regulating the alkali metal content of the phenolic resin to 20-2,000ppm. |
