A method is described for making a moulding of a nitrogen-containing permanent-magnet alloy, especially of the type SmFeN, from a powdered prealloy which is still free of nitrogen or only partially nitrided. In doing so, the prealloy is first mixed with a nitrogen-containing compound, or alternatively the powder particles of the prealloy are coated with a solution or suspension containing a nitrogen-containing compound. The mixture is then moulded or compacted to give a moulding. In a subsequent reaction-sintering process the nitrided permanent-magnet alloy is finally formed. The temperature of this reaction-sintering process should be chosen so as to be above the decomposition temperature of the nitrogen-containing compound, so that the latter is decomposed and at the same time the prealloy can incorporate the nitrogen being liberated. |
