PURPOSE:To obtain the title sintered compact with high mechanical strength by impregnating, through the surface of metallic silicon form, the surface layer necessary for corrosion resistance with boron nitride followed by reaction and sintering in a nitrogen atmosphere. CONSTITUTION:Firstly, metallic silicon powder is formed into a metallic silicon form of specified shape. Second, the surface of this form is coated with a boron nitride (plus metallic silicon) water slurry to impregnate the form with the boron nitride through the surface. Subsequently, the form is dried to remove the water contained, and the resulting form is heated in a nitrogen atmosphere to carry out reaction and sintering, thus obtaining the objective sintered form at low cost. The present sintered form has each sintered structure made up of (A) the interior as silicon nitride, (B) the surface layer as a composite of silicon nitride and boron nitride, and (C) the surface as boron nitride. |
