A method of producing phosphoric acid free of ferric iron

A method of purifying phosphoric acid to reduce solids and to remove and recover iron is provided. An integrated process is presented in which the iron is extracted using an organic extractant. The iron is then stripped from the organic extractant using an aqueous salt solution to form a particulate iron-salt complex, and the complex is separated from the aqueous phase. The iron-salt complex may be decomposed to provide iron oxide and the regenerated salt. Both the stripped organic extractant and the regenerated salt may be recycled repeatedly.
