PURPOSE: To obtain a hollow fiber for gas separation or the like having microporous layer by extruding a hydrooxyehtylated polyoxyphenylene solution through a circular spinneret having pores inside, coagulating the inner by pores and the outer by an aqueous bath and then stretching. CONSTITUTION: A hollow fiber having a thin fine layer on its surface, an outer diameter of 450-550μm, an inner diameter of 250-400μm with a glass transition temperature of from 180-200 deg.C, and units of formula 1 (x is 0-10), formula II (y is 10-20), formula III (z is 30-60), formula IV (z is 30-60) obtained by preparing a 1-formylpiperidine solution (viscose) of hydroxyethylated poly-(2,6-dimethyl-p- oxyphenylene), extruding the viscose through spinneret having a ring type cross area and pores inside a ring shape slit, partially coagulating the extruded material by supplying water to a central pore of the spinneret, simultaneously bringing the outer into contact with a coagulation bath to form a hollow fiber precursor, finishing coagulation by supplying the precursor into the aqueous bath and stretching in the aqueous solution.
