The lifter consists of a triangular frame (5, 6, 7) whose top member (7) is extended forwards to carry a hook (9) which engages a pin fixed to a beam (18). The beam has a hook (19) at each end which can fit under the lifting recesses in the cover (24). The other end of the top member carries a long handle (13) with a bar (14). This handle enables the user to pivot the apparatus about the axle (3) with a high mechanical advantage.
