PURPOSE:To obtain an optical tape excellent in recording characteristics by using a film having specified surface characteristics. CONSTITUTION:This optical tape is a magneto-optical recording medium which is rewritable and uses a magneto-optical effect. When information is recorded and reproduced by irradiation of laser beams from the base film side of an optical tape, the tape has such a layered structure as a base film, dielectric layer, recording layer, dielectric layer and reflecting layer. When laser beams are radiated from the recording layer side, the tape has such a layered structure as a base film, reflecting layer, dielectric layer, recording layer, and dielectric layer. The base film consists of a biaxially oriented polyester film, and one surface of the film has <=5nm center line average surface roughness and has <=10 coarse projections/cm<2> of >=0.10mum height. The other surface of the film is coated with a film having dispersion of a lubricant. |
