The invention relates to a sensor for detecting the presence or absence of a moving part at a given location, characterised in that it comprises, fixed to a support (1), a source (4) emitting a light beam (6), a first optical fibre (7) and a second optical fibre (12), the end of the first fibre (7) being arranged so that the beam (6) is received when the said part (10) is absent from the said location and masked when the part is present, the first end of the second fibre (12) being arranged so as to receive the beam (6') reflected by the said part only when it is situated at the said location, the second ends of the fibres being each joined to an optoelectronic component converting the presence or absence of light in the fibre into binary signals addressed to a programmed microcomputer providing an indication of the presence or absence of the part at the given location and information on the state of the sensor.
