<p>PURPOSE:To prevent the adjacent occupants from colliding with each other at the time of side collision by providing an air bag, inflated instantaneously by a signal from a vehicle impulse detecting means, in a car body corresponding location downward of an extension part, and bringing the air bag into contact with at least the lower surface of the extension part at the time of inflation. CONSTITUTION:When an air bag 16 is inflated, its upper surface front side central part is brought into contact with a surface of an extension part 11, to restrict any more inflation upward. Consequently, the air bag 16 is left as restricted and inflated while directed to right/left outsides or rearward, and force is energized in an direction of separating the occupants to pull apart both the occupants. In this way, the air bag prevents both the occupants from colliding and also provides capability of concurrently serving as protection of an occupant in a rear seat. Since internal volume of tending to expand is decreased without decreasing a surface area of the air bag 16 brought into contact with the occupant, expansion speed of the air bag 16 is increased and also increasing expansion force against the occupant.</p> |
