<p>PURPOSE: To provide a device for avoiding overspeeding of an engine due to a fault of a waste device relating to an internal combustion engine comprising a wastegate type turbocharger. CONSTITUTION: A turbocharger has a turbine section 18; a compressor section 20; and a pressure responsive adjustable fuel pump is 15 in communication with combustion chambers. A wastegate unit 11 with an adjustable valve disposed within a bypass passageway in the turbine section is provided for regulating the diversion of a flow rate of exhaust gas from a turbine wheel within the section. Three ports respectively in pressure communication with a fuel pump, an intake manifold and the wastegate unit are formed in a multiport connection 33 having an interior cavity. When a pressure within the connection cavity is below a predetermined amount, a second passageway (the bypass passageway) is closed by a biasing force acting on the adjustable valve of the device, and the fuel pump responsive to the reduced pressure within the cavity reduces a flow rate of fuel to an engine 10, thus overspeeding of the turbocharger is avoided.</p> |
