PURPOSE:To reduce the cost by providing a printer whose operating condition is detected and controlled optically, wherein light distributed from a common light source is projected to a plurality of projecting means so as to dispose of increase of the number of detecting sections only by adding light receiving means. CONSTITUTION:In order to detect operating condition of a printer such as presence of papers, paper jam, presence of ribbon, ribbon jam, label gap, and opened/closed state of a head, a rotary mirror wherein a plane mirror 22A is oscillated continuously within a proper angle range by a motor is provided. The rotary mirror distributes light from a light source 18 and injects it in light relay sections D (D1, D2...). The light injected in each light relay section D is sent to projector sections L (L1, L2...) in each condition detecting section in a printer. The light from the projector section L is received by light receiving sections S (S1, S2...) consisting of luminosity adjusting means and light receiving element so as to detect the operating condition of the printer. |
