A device controls the solar energy incident at the roof opening of a building like a hall or apartment. Projecting upwards from the roof opening is a housing which can rotate around an almost vertical axis. The housing has vertical or slightly inclined transparent walls, whose upper ends all lie in a common plane at an angle of about 15 to 25 degrees to the horizontal. This plane carries a reflecting surface to reflect solar radiation and light through the opening and down into the building. The reflecting surface is preferably convex but may be a diffuse surface.. ADVANTAGE - Prevents hothouse effect in summer and gives maximum use of solar radiation in winter.
