In treatment of effluent water and/or raw waste water in a waste water cleaning plant, where the loaded water is fed into a reactor, opt. from a container, and is reacted with microorganisms, either suspended and/or immobilised on a carrier, electrically and/or mechanically stimulated oscillations of frequency 12-40 kHz are produced in the water, in the container and/or in the reactor, with an output of 3-50 W/l, suitable for prodn. of cavitation. The oscillations have a frequency of 18-25 kHz, and are permanent or periodic. Two different, defined frequencies may be obtd., sp. 12-25 kHz (which are partic. periodic) and 20-40 kHz (which are partic. permanent). In obtaining the oscillations, the static pressure on the water is (periodically) below the vapour pressure.
