The shelf system comprises a large number of supports (15) travelling round a track in a housing, with one at a time transferred from it into a loading and unloading hatch (11) at the front or rear of the housing (10). At least one sidewall (12) in the housing, near the main hatch, incorporates an additional one (14), typically protected by a safety shutter, or photoelectric cell. Thus the support circulation movement is prevented when the additional hatch is open. One or more of the supports can have a slider for the goods, movable between its front and rear.
