A winding core for use with wound tape spools is produced without flanges and may be stacked with others. The core has an inner ring element (2) and an outer ring structure (1). The connection between inner and outer rings is provided by a pattern of S- shaped elements (7). The centre section of the elements has an angle (alpha) that alternates between values of alpha equal to 90 degrees plus an increment and minus an increment. Typically, the increment is 5 degrees. These elements allow the outer ring to be compressed. ADVANTAGE - Provides limited compression of locating ring.
