A hand lamp assembly comprises a lower compartment (10) of rectangular construction and a lamp unit (12) connected by a jointing section (11). The underside of the compartment (10) is provided with two U-shaped slots set at an angle (alpha) w.r.t. the diagonal. The slots accommodate the two arms (23,24) which are arranged to pivot about their respective end axes such that when swivelled fully outwards from the base they take up the positions (23a,24a) to form a stable support for the complete assembly. USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides improved stability by resisting tilting at right angles to any of four sides of lower compartment. Arms offset w.r.t. diagonal enable max. length to be accommodated within confines of base when folded away.
