The nut runner comprises a head (10) with a chamber (27), contg. a rotary ring (14) driven by a lever (18) in a coaxial bearing. A piston (40) of a ram (11), detachable from the head, acts against the lever. The plane (37) of the joint between head and ram is at right angles to the piston axis, with a socket (32) formed in one of them, in which a plug portion (33) on the other one fits so that it cannot turn. The plug portion is held in the socket by several locking members (34,33a) which, in the engaged position, are in a common plane parallel to that of the joint. They are inserted in the socket from outside the chamber (27), and are easily detached when the ram is not under load. The lever is thrust towards the piston by a spring (28) supported on the head, without any tensile load coupling.
