Flues are arranged in the heating wall of a coke oven. Each flue is provided with at least two gas supplies and two air supplies. The second gas supply (16, 17) may alternatively serve as an air supply and may be connected to an air duct (32) provided with a blower (34) for forced air supply and which may alternatively be connected to an exhaust gas duct (32a) connectable to the exhaust gas flue (35).
