An upsetting press is used in order to produce balls from lengths of wire. The upsetting tool is mounted in a holder (1) which is mounted in a bearing (2). The inner end of the toll holder is fastened to an annular piston (9). The press slide (5) actuates an L=shaped lever (3). One end of this lever (3) presses against the end face of the piston (9) while the other end of the lever (3) is actuated by a cam (7). The tool holder is pressed in the direction opposite to the working stroke of the press by compressed air which is admitted to the chamber (10) and acts on the inner face of the annular piston (9). USE/ADVANTAGE - Production of balls by upsetting lengths of wire. The use of compressed air enables the tool to be withdrawn immediately after the completion of the working stroke.
