<p>The present invention provides a method for identifying the size, shape, and location of objects (200, 202, 204, 206) in a specimen wherein the image of the specimen is represented by image data (100) and wherein the image data (100) is processed to provide mask data representing a mask (316) wherein the mask identifies the size, shape, and location of the object. Generally, the method includes the step of enhancing the image (102) and creating a threshold image (104, 304, 610) wherein the threshold image (104, 304, 610) includes a threshold intensity value (510) associated with each pixel of the image. The threshold image (610) is combined (506) with the original image (100) to provide a mask image that identifies the size, shape, and location of the objects. The mask image may be further reamed (106) to ensure accurate identification of the object (200, 202, 204, 206). Various other techniques are disclosed within the general method for processing image data (100).</p> |
