PURPOSE:To simplify the operation and constitution of an adjusting device for the steering wheel angle by combining a latch, pivot pin, pawl and the like. CONSTITUTION:A latch 4, which is rotatably and axially movably held by an upper bracket 1 and can slide along a handle shaft 3 leftward energized by a spring 2, is meshed with a pawl 8 provided on the handle shaft 3. A pivot pin 6 attached to the upper bracket 1 is secured to a breakaway bracket 5. Thus, pushing in the handle shaft 3 against the spring 2 causes the latch 4 and the pawl 8 to be disengaged; and the upper bracket 1, the handle shaft 3 and the pawl 8 turn on the pivot pin 6, and an upper shaft 12 and the like turn on a universal joint 14, so that the tilt operation is performed. Turning a control handle 9 causes the latch 4 and the pawl 8 to turn as they are being meshed, so that the tilt away operation is performed. Thus, simply pushing or turning the control handle 9 permits the tilt or away operation to be performed. |
