Weft insertion in a multicolour airjet loom employs a weft accumulator, a main jet, and a weft detector. The weft detector is coupled to a logic circuit and counter mechanism working in conjunction with the loom timing. Following each beat-up of the slay, the weft insertion is tested against a standard length, and corrections are made at the weft accumulator. The measured length on the accumulator (10) is pref. controlled by the logic circuit (80), which is synchronised to the loom timing (90). The coupling (15) to the magnet (13a) and counterpart (13b) adjusts the required length of weft (5) on the accumulator barrel (11). ADVANTAGE - The weft may not only be of several colours, but also of different texture, so that the measurement on the accumulator does not give the same weft length, for trimming at the edge of the fabric. The weft detector and circuits send signals to the accumulator to select the appropriate length in each case.
