PURPOSE:To miniaturize and lighten a slave unit and to reduce power consumption by giving a hand-free function to the slave unit only by means of providing a hand-free device for a master unit in a cordless telephone system. CONSTITUTION:The hand-free device H1 and a switch circuit SW are provided for the master unit 1. At the time of making a call with the other telephone set via a telephone line 3 by the master unit 1, the call is made through the hand-free device H1 by changing over the switch circuit SW to a line wire side b1. A sound signal is transmitted to the slave unit through the hand-free device H1 even if the switch circuit SW is changed over to an extension-side a1. When the switch circuit SW is made neutral, the call can be made with the other telephone set by the slave unit 2 via the hand-free device H1 and the telephone line 3.
