PURPOSE:To increase the safety by using laser welding or electron beam welding focusing heat at an objective point at a safety atmosphere for the safety seal of a container of a nonaqueous electrolyte battery having a light metal such as lithium, aluminum as a negative active material and limiting heat affecting an electrode group using a heat sink or a cooler. CONSTITUTION:A laser 1 generates a laser beam 2. Usually, a glass laser using yttrium-aluminum-garnet (YAG) or a carbon dioxide gas laser is used. A battery is composed of a container 3, a cover 4 installed terminals 5 with a hermetic seal 8 interposed, and an electrode group 4 comprising a positive material, separator, and a negative material, connected to terminals 5 with lead wires. The battery is placed on a roller conveyor 7 so as to possess an adequate position to the laser 1. A heat sink 9 is used to prevent heat affecting a lower part of the container 3, and accommodated in a vacuum chamber or an inert gas chamber when the battery is sealed with the laser. |
