NEW MATERIAL:The compound of formula (R is methoxy, 2-ethoxyethoxy, amino, etc.). EXAMPLE:2-Ethoxyethyl-1-(4-chlorophenyl)-cyclopentanecarboxylate. USE:Repellent for aquatic life applicable to any fish net independent of its material. It also prevents the adhesion and proliferation of aquatic life at the intake of cooling water. PROCESS:The compound of formula is prepared by reacting 1-(4-chlorophenyl)- 1-cyclopentanecarboxylic acid with an alcohol in the presence of a dehydrating agent at the refluxing temperature of the alcohol until the raw materials are spent. The dehydrating agent is preferably, e.g. 0.005-0.5mol of sulfuric acid.
