Fabric which is extensible at least in its warp direction (length direction), and the warp of which is produced using synthetic yarns (1c, 2c, 3c, 4c, etc.), having received a texturising treatment rendering them extensible and, more particularly, a false-twisting texturising treatment, the weft yarns (1t, 2t, 3t, etc.) being able to be based on continuous (extensible or non-extensible) yarns or on threads of fibres. It is characterised in that: - the texturised warp yarns (1c, 2c, 3c, etc.) are selected from those obtained using the so-called "false twist" technique and which have received a braiding (interlacing) treatment in order to make it possible to block their extensibility temporarily so as to enable them to be used in weaving without sizing; - the weave is designed in such a way that it includes, in one repeat, an alternation of zones, one (T) having a taffeta structure and the others, arranged on either side of the said taffeta structure (T), in which the warp and weft yarns form float effects between them; - the fabric straight from the loom is subjected, after construction, to a finishing treatment (dyeing and heat treatment) enabling a maximum shrinkage to be obtained in the warp direction. <IMAGE>
