PURPOSE:To carry out a photochemical reaction efficiently while using a continuous light source, by irradiating the respective catalysts having the working threshold values corresponding to the energy of the respective wavelength regions of light with the light dispersed to the respective wavelength regions respectively. CONSTITUTION:Continuous light 10, e.g. sunlight or short arc xenon light, passed through a light condensing means 1 and a slit 9 and incident upon a light dispersing means 2 is separated and dispersed by using the light dispersing means 2 consisting of a mirror 5 and a light dispersing element 6 to form dispersed light 11. A composite catalyst assembly 7 containing the respective catalysts (a)-(d) having the working threshold values corresponding to the energy of the respective wavelength regions in a given order is placed in a reaction chamber 3 containing reaction components, and the dispersed light 11 introduced through a light transmitting window 8 into the reaction chamber 3 to irradiate the respective catalysts (a)-(d) having the respective corresponding threshold values respectively. Thus, the desired photochemical reaction is efficiently carried out while avoiding the occurrence of undesirable side reactions. |
