The invention concerns a method of producing light-coloured tetraalkoxysilanes by transesterifying tetramethoxysilanes or ethoxysilanes with higher primary alcohols in the presence of basic catalysts, followed by neutralization and bleaching by means of solid acid bleaching earths and cation-exchange agents.
