The present invention relates to an antidote for hirudin and synthetic thrombin inhibitors which contains a compound which reduces prothrombin to meizothrombin, a prothrombin intermediate, a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof or a mixture of these compounds together with customary carrier substances and/or diluents. The present invention also concerns the use of a compound which reduces prothrombin to meizothrombin, a prothrombin intermediate, a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof or a mixture of these compounds together with customary vehicle substances and/or a mixture of these compounds together with customary carrier substances and/or diluents as an antidote for hirudin and synthetic thrombin inhibitors or for making an antidote for hirudin and synthetic thrombin inhibitors.
