Sound- or heat-insulating constructional part, e.g. plates, dishes, mouldings, comprises rock wool sealed under pressure, esp. basalt rock wool made of yarns of fibres drawn from a rockmelt and bound using binders. The part is free from phenols and resins formed from them. Also claimed are: (i) an intermediate prod. used to mfr. the part; and (ii) prodn. of the intermediate prod.. USE/ADVANTAGE - The part can be used as a sound absorber for engines and vehicles. It avoids the use of phenolic binders, which are harmful and ecologically unsafe.
