Support binder (B), pref. for use beneath carpet (c), comprises scrim (1) having frame elements (2, 3) spaced from each other to form openings (4, 5). Foam material (10) surrounds at least some of the elements and extends into at least some of the openings and at least a portion of the support binder is coated with pressure-sensitive adhesive (12). The frame elements comprise intersecting threads (2, 3). The foam comprises support pillows (11) extending into and closing at least some of the openings, the pillows being thicker than the frame elements. Most pref., the pillows close alternate openings to give the support binder a chequerboard pattern. The pressure-sensitive adhesive coats each of the support pillows or surrounds them. The intersecting threads are orthogonal. At least one release liner is mounted on one face of the support binder. Most pref., there is one on both opposite faces, opening being provided in them.
