The main body (10) of the instrument comprises an elongated hollow handle (11) and an internally threaded annular holder (13), into which a hollow cone (20) of transparent glass or plastic can be fitted. The cone has a relatively broad eyepiece (23) at its proximal end, and a more sharply tapered distal end (22) for insertion into the cavity under examination. Illumination is provided by a lamp coupled by a light guide (30) through the neck (12) of the handle into the region (21) of the cone surrounded by the holder, whence light is propagated to the distal end by total internal reflection (22x, 22y). USE/ADVANTAGE - For otoscope. Instrument can be dismantled easily with sepn. of transparent cone from handle after use.
