A mounting (5) accommodates the walking ram (6) in the gap between the skids (1). A roof cowl, a lemniscate drive mechanism and a backfill shield are included. The ram piston rod (8) is coupled via a walking beam to the coalface conveyor, while at the backfill side a cross-member joins the ram cylinder to the skids. At the coal-face side the ram mounting is guided as far as the extended piston rod, and has a bridge (11) over the latter. A lifting ram (13) on the bridge acts via coupling members (14) on the skids. The walking beam is guided between lateral faces in the ram mounting.
