PURPOSE: To provide a control circuit for an image pickup device for a document processor which can stably generate highly reliable image data by performing offset correcting and gain correction at every picture element in the scanning line of a picture reader. CONSTITUTION: A control circuit automatically corrects various kinds of factors upon receiving image data from a picture reader, such as a CCD 38, 52. The picture reader generates image data at a prescribed speed from the position of a prescribed number of picture elements in the scanning line of a document 12. The image data are amplified and inputted to a flash A/D at the above prescribed speed. Offset and gain correction data are inputted to the flash A/D at the prescribed speed and offset correction and gain correction are performed at the position of each picture element. Such post-processing as thresholding, compression, reading, etc., can be performed with high accuracy as prearranged and accurate distortion-free gray-level document reading can be performed.
